We’ll find the second historical plaque in the wall which runs along the descent of Via della Resistenza Nettunese. It is the road that from Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini leads to the seaside resorts. On this wall are still visible the holes from the machine-gun bursts that the German soldiers fired on the executed people. Before the Americans came up from the beach, also Nettuno, as many towns in Italy, experienced a tragic period. In the background were the ruins of Italy abandonated since the 8th September when at 7.42 pm. King Vittorio Emanule III had Marshal Pietro Badoglio announce the armistice with the Anglo-Americans by radio. A few hours later both fled to Brindisi leaving the Italian in complete abandonement. The following day, i.e on September 9th, at five o’clock in the morning, the Artillery Regiment stationed at the Piave Barracks, was awakened by a German unit which, with machine-guns positioned on the terraces and windows of the surronding houses, demanded to surrender. Two hours later, in Piazza Mazzini, other Germans aimed a small cannon  at the building of the military garrison and shouted through a megaphone to the officers to come out with hands up
