Plaque n. 10
Il portale istituzionale del Comune di Nettuno (RM)

In Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini, at number 21, the tenth historical plaque indicates where the Allied Military Government – Civilian Service Office - was located. It started to be operational since the first landings. The photo shows Major Bryan E. Holmgreen, as he accompanies a Nettuno woman, Mrs Maria Di Marco Gargano, dressed in mourning, inside the office for registration, before being embarked for the mandatory evacuation to south of Italy. The same Major Holmgreen on the date of April 9th, 1944 presented to Dr. Ciro Donati a letter of appreciation: “To Dr Donati. As you are leaving the Anzio/Nettuno area I want to express my appreciation for the splendid medical assitance you have rendered your people during the trying days of war. You have worked hard, have worked with no compensation, handled the sick and the wounded and conducted a civil hospital with great difficulty. I wish you a good voyage and an early return to the area”.
