The seventh historical plaque can be found in Via Romana, number 13 (no longer number 9). It was a wine cellar that belonged to Alfredo Cicco, a man from Nettuno. It had the name “Artilleryman’s Inn” printed over the entrance. The owner, Alfredo Cicco, served as artilleryman in WWI. Since February 8th the wine cellar became the permanent 6th Corps headquarters. It had underground cellars which, connected with others underground cellars, formed a labyrinth. That’s where all sections of the headquarters were located. In Lucas diary we can read: “The constant air attack and shelling this morning prevented any work being done and made it apparent that it was only a question of time until I would have serious losses among the members of the staff. I can’t afford to chance that so the staff is now in an enormous wine cellar about 20 feet underground. Nerves have smoothed out already and all have gone back to work. My office is on top but I can get down in a hurry if it gets too hot. I am out much of the time, anyhow”.
